There are equal and opposite forces acting on the grinding wheel and workpiece during grinding. The force generated in the grinding process is called grinding force (cutting force). The grinding force is mainly composed of two parts: the abrasive grain will cause great plastic deformation of the metal to be cut when cutting the metal, and the cutting force is formed; The grinding force generated between the particle and the workpiece surface during cutting.

 

(2) The influence of grinding force on machining

In grinding, the grinding particles are cut with negative front Angle, and the fillet radius R of the cutting edge is often larger than the back cutting amount, so the radial squeezing pressure of the grinding particles on the workpiece is great, generally Fp=(2 ~ 3)FC. Due to the large radial force, the process system composed of machine tool, workpiece and grinding wheel produces large elastic deformation, which affects the grinding accuracy. If the workpiece is deformed due to the action of radial force and tangential force, the relative movement of its axis is e, which will cause the diameter error of the workpiece.

 

The deformation of process system caused by radial force often makes the actual amount of back cutting different from the tree value shown on the wheel feed dial. Therefore, the proper grinding cycle is to stop after feed to eliminate the deformation caused by radial forces. This type of grinding without feed is called light grinding or sparkless grinding. When grinding a slender shaft, the workpiece is ground into a drum shape by radial forces.
